ISR Self-Rescue™ Swim Instruction

PictureKristy Squire
I am a Mommy to 3 incredible children and my fur baby.  I am an ISR Master Instructor and a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with my BA in Communication and my MBA.

11 years ago, I was traveling often for my job.  I had just built a pool in my backyard and I began having fears that something could happen to my daughter.  Our Nanny could not swim nor could Addison at 11 months old.

I found ISR through an old college friend who's daughter completed lessons in Central Florida.  I sought out to find an ISR Instructor nearby and enrolled right away.  I drove over 30 minutes each way for our 10 minute lesson but what she learned was so amazing, the daily drives and yelling child were beyond worth it!

After my "ISR Mom" experience, I felt compelled to help other parents attain what I had- knowing my child is safe, skilled, and actually really happy in the water (when she finished her lessons).  I decided to become an Instructor in 2007.

It never gets old seeing a baby be able to roll on to their back and float and be able to breathe before they can even stand up.  With drowning being so prevalent in our area, we need to prepare children with the skills needed to survive in and around the water.  ISR does just that.  Even my youngest has put her skills to the test when she decided to walk off the back of an anchored in Lake Boca.

Helping children become competent in the water is so important to me, that teaching these lessons is not a job, it is a passion.  This passion never feels like work.

I have taught hundreds of children the ISR Self-Rescue skills needed to survive if ever in an aquatic emergency and to SWIM for fun.  I can't wait to meet your family so you can enjoy the amazing ISR results for yourselves!

I am a married Mother of 3 amazing children (who am I kidding rambunctious, wild ones is more like it). Early Childhood Professional, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Heart Association CPR instructor, and Certified ISR instructor.

Growing up on our family sailboat “Gracious” I’ve always had a profound love and respect for the water.  Fear of the water is not an option in our family.  However, my love for the water changed after a traumatic experience.

Years ago, while at a pool party I SAVED a child’s life by performing CPR on her.  After 6 sets of compressions She was awake looking for her Mommy! She is one of the good stories you hear about and walked away unscathed.

Unfortunately, after that day my love for the water turned into a fear of the water.

I knew we needed to find the best swim program for our boys 3yrs and 15m at the time. After researching the options available in my area, I knew ISR was the best choice. I was amazed at what they were able to learn in such a short period of time.

Being a teacher myself I was fascinated with the teaching process of ISR lessons. The program really shined for me when I watched my boys and the child I saved, simulate saving themselves fully clothed. I could finally enjoy being around the water again.

Shortly after my boys completed the program, I made the choice to leave my classroom behind to become a Certified ISR Instructor.  My favorite part of being an ISR instructor is when my students make me feel like a celebrity when they see me out of the pool.  I love the special bond I create with my students.

The strong aquatic foundation we build together will last their lifetime, there is nothing better than that!

I am a mommy of 2 beautiful children, and one on the way.  I’m originally from Ohio, but water has always been a big part of my life.  I went through a similar program to ISR at 2 years old and swam competitively from the time I was 5 until I graduated high school.

When my daughter was about 18 months we started looking into swim programs. I had no idea about ISR at the time so I enrolled her in traditional mommy and me swim lessons at our local gym 2 times per week. She hated it. She cried the entire time and at the end of her session she had gotten absolutely nothing out of it. We were recommended ISR by another local family and I signed her up right away. I thought it was pure magic. At the end of a 6 week course my daughter could not only swim, but also roll back and float completely on her own.

Never before had I thought about being a swim instructor, but watching my daughter gain confidence in the water and self rescue gave me a passion to teach other children how to do the same and give parents the same peace of mind that ISR had given me.

After my son finished his lessons at 18 months I took the plunge and never looked back. I finished my instructor training in 2017 and my passion for drowning prevention has only grown from there.
My hope is that every parent sees the importance of aquatic self rescue lessons and that not one more will have to endure the tragedy of losing a child to a drowning accident. Watching a child go from being uneasy and unsure to having full confidence and loving the water makes my “job” as an instructor beyond rewarding. I am grateful for every child I have been able to work with thus far and look forward to teaching many many more in the future!
